SSDB 2017 - Appreciating the Pioneers cum National Day celebration!

This year, for our “Start Small, Dream Big” project, we aim to spread compassion and kindness, as well as to show appreciation and gratitude to the pioneers who have contributed and helped build our nation.

In conjunction with the upcoming National Day, the teachers and our little angels came up with the idea of visiting Fei Yue Senior Activity Centre @ Holland Close and bringing joy to them by having a National Day celebration together!

It started with the parents getting involved by contributing basic grocery items. As it was our first in organizing such an event, response from the parents and children were overwhelming! Parents were very supportive and generous in giving. They brought in bags of items.

With the items that they have brought, the children happily sorted and categorized them accordingly.

As we will be expecting a turnout of about 40 seniors at the Activity Centre, each child is in charge of packing one goodie bag of grocery items for each senior (there were 42 children).

Finally, 7 August 2017 came and the children, each armed with a goodie bag, made their way to Fei Yue Senior Activity Centre. There was even a parent volunteer who offered to help us out with the event! =)

The event started with some songs and dance performances. After the performances, each children attached him/herself with a senior and worked on a simple craft work together – the National flag.

The children were quite shy initially, but after a while, the whole event hall became livelier as the seniors and children became more comfortable with one another. Many seniors requested to take pictures with the children and one senior even commented that she will keep the flag and remember the child forever!

Two National Day songs were sung after the craft and tattoo pasting activity and the seniors participated by waving their handmade flag, after which, the goodie bags were distributed. The event ended with smiles on the seniors’ faces, as well as the children’s and teachers’.

When the children came back to school, we overheard some of their conversations:

“The ahma and ahgong at the activity centre helped to build Singapore.”

“Yes, they work very hard, that’s why now they need to rest. They go to the centre to meet their friends and play some games and do some craft work. That’s why we go there is good because we make them happy.“

It was a wonderful experience for all of us at Cherie Hearts @ The Chevrons. =)
