My First Skool @ Admiralty Link celebrates Fiesta Raya 2018!

On 22nd June 2018, My First Skool @ Admiralty Link organized “‘Fiesta Raya!” - an event which celebrates Family Day and Hari Raya celebration altogether! This year, our centre adopted the theme of Caring for others, together!” and have identified Swami Home @ Sembawang Walk as our beneficiary.

This event aims to inculcate intergenerational bonds between the children and their grandparents in line with our goal to celebrate the elderly community. Prior to Fiesta Raya, we collated responses and have them contribute donation items such as Axe Oil, Good Morning Towels, Johnsons Body Lotion and Rice Vermicelli Bee Hoon in exchange for food coupons to be used on the day of event. We were overjoyed to see such an overwhelming response in both contributions and participation for the event!

Everyone came together to prepare for Fiesta Raya as early as 7.00 in the morning; Principal, DCL, teachers and centre attendants! Among some preparation include spicing up the hosting venue with decorations to suit the Hari Raya theme, hanging of event banner and decorating of the spaces outside our centre all the way leading up to the nearby neighbourhood walkway!

To celebrate the diversity and unity that is present in the ALC culture, we encouraged everyone to come dressed in their ethnic costumes.

The event was a time for parents to bond together with their child, and for staffs to unwind alongside the children!

We served a mixture of Singaporean dishes such as fried bee hoon, satay goreng, ketupat and fruit rojak. Grandparents who attended were treated to dumpling soup! The dishes were also kindly prepared by staffs of ALC who sacrified their time and energy towards an amazing cause! :-)

We also wrapped up the event by taking a group photo with the banner outdoors.

On 24th July 2018, all donated items were packed for representatives of Swami Home to collect them. This was assisted by the K2 children, who did their part in packing them into boxes, and transporting them over (boxes were ensured to be of comfortable weight) to the van.

We are utmostly touched to see everyone in our centre playing their role to contribute to our good cause for the elderly! This has been an amazing learning experience for us, especially the children as they take the time to appreciate the elderly, particularly those close at home; their grandparents. An upcoming event will be the celebration of Mid-Autumn Festival with residents of Swami Home on the 24th of September 2018. We would like to extend our heartfelt thank you to all staffs of ALC who believed in our cause, families, children and the community - specifically Swami Home. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦👵👴
