Visit to “Kindness Gallery “

Kindness is in everyone. As a part of our SSDB project, we took this opportunity to encourage our kids to start, show and share kindness with everyone in the community they live in. To create public awareness of acts of kindness (i.e) responsibility, empathy and compassion for others, we went on an experiential tour around the happy town of “Kindsville” where Singa and the Kindness Cubbies live, to explore their favourite hangout places!

Our both sessions of K2 kids went for their learning journey on Monday 30th July 2018 as well as on 1st August 2018. They were split into two groups upon reaching “The Kindness Gallery”. Each group took turns to go for an experiential tour with Singa to Kindsville where the values of kindness and graciousness were taught. Children learnt to know, How, When and Where to use the five magic words (‘thank you’, ‘you’re welcome’, ‘please’, ‘excuse me’ and ‘I’m sorry’). They were allowed to share their prior experiences. As a part of their tour, children were taught how to board the bus as well as the basic courtesies they would need while travelling (i.e) No eating and drinking, Holding the rails, No playing in the bus, Kindly excusing themselves while they walk through the crowd in the bus. They were also taught about the priority seat and what the signs mean, through a role play which helped them understand better.

After the tour, children attended a story telling session, in which they were taught about the importance of kindness towards their neighbours as well as when in the public. They also learnt the names of Five Kindness Cubbies by the end of the story.

Children then made a ‘Thank You’ card to show their Love to anyone they wish to give (i.e) Mother, Daddy, Teacher, Sister, Brother, Grandma and Grandpa. They were guided by the instructors to structure their ‘Thank You’ cards. Following this, they were given a mask of one of the Cubbies, which they could decorate.

Throughout the visit, Children were entertained and engaged.

Once we came back to school, children were asked to verbally summaries their trip at ‘The Kindness Gallery’. They Played ‘Yes and No Cubbies” card game as a follow-up activity.

Eventually children learnt the act of kindness, makes life more pleasant for everyone through this learning Journey.
