SSDB Charity Carnival cum National Day Observance Ceremony@Palawan Pirate Ship, Sentosa.

We held the SSDB Charity Carnival cum National Day Observance Ceremony at the Palawan Pirate Ship, Sentosa on 8 August 2018, Wednesday. It was a joint event of three centres: PCF Sparkletots Preschool @ Tanjong Pagar-Tiong Bahru Block 125 (CC), Block 1E and Block 130. The event marked the culmination of our SSDB project journey. We came together to celebrate Singapore 53rd birthday through giving back to the society.

In conjunction with the theme of our project “Save Our Ocean Friends”, there were fun-filled activity and game booths to create awareness of ocean pollution and marine life. The activity and games booths included: 3D puzzle: What Am I?, Creative Arts: Give Our Ocean Friends a Beautiful Home, Beebot Game, Underwater Ping-pong, Clean the Ocean Thrash, Ocean in a Bottle, Feed the Shark, Photo booth, Pledge Corner, Photo Gallery and Info booth and Mascot Rovers.

Information booth consisted of posters and videos to raise awareness on ocean pollution, sea animal extinction and recycling.

Ocean themed photo booth made from recyclable material for the participants to capture the beautiful memory of the event.

Pledge corner for participants to pen down their pledge to “Save Our Ocean Friends”.

Products from our upcycling project with children and parents were sold at the carnival with the proceeds donated to the President’s Challenge as part of the service learning.

Masterpieces created by the children and teachers using recyclable materials were sold through auction to raise the funds for the President’s Challenge.

We started the event with the National Observance Ceremony followed by the GetActice! Singapore workout and sang along to the NDP 2018 theme song “We Are Singapore”. Our children put up a fantastic skit titled “Save Our Ocean “ follow by the GOH address by Mr Victor Bay, CEO of PAP Community Foundation.

Our mascot rovers (turtle, shark and stingray) worked hard to create awareness on sea pollution, sea animal extinction and recycling.

The project provides hands-on experience in learning to give back to the society through social enterprise. Children have a sense of achievement in selling the products they had helped to make using recyclable materials.

Decorated pebbles through parental involvement activity were also sold to raise the fund.

Photo gallery to share our project journey with the parents.

Parents and children bonded over the various activities available at our activity and game booths which were made using recyclable materials.

The masterpieces created by children and teachers based on the theme of the project “Save Our Ocean Friends” were auctioned. Our parents purchase the auctioned items in supporting our project.

Reflection

The projects provides opportunity for our children to participate in social cause. It is a good platform for our children’s holistic development to develop values of good citizenship which includes care, respect, responsibility, resilience, integrity and harmony.
