Together with the teachers, we took months planning for our first ever open house. We were exposed to many traditional games like pick-up sticks, zero point, hopscotch and capteh. Our talented teachers, created a game card which were given to all the visitors. They were required to complete the four games listed above before there can attain a chop. Upon completion, they can redeem henna drawing and a balloon.
Even a simple table, with a little effort, can feel like we are at Little India.
We also helped our teachers set-up displays of traditional musical instruments, costumes from different races and other traditional games that our parents and grandparents are so familiar with. The crowd was overwhelmed with the many familiar setting in the centre.

Prior to this, we were excited to welcome MP Ms Cheryl Chan and our EP Alice Chan for officially opening of our outdoor garden. We were also honoured to have Ms Chan planting our favourite plant, Corleus together with us. She was very warm and bright, just like the weather that day. They were later welcomed to the centre with lines of our friends from K1 popping the poppers together with parents and members of the public.

All our distinguish guest were invited to be seated for a short sharing from us, before enjoying an Indian dance titled ‘Jai Ho’ which means ‘Let victory be yours’ which was performed by our K1 friends. It was a little nerve-wrecking for us but we went next to perform the same dance that we performed earlier this year during PM Visit to Fengshan during Chinese New Year. Our teachers and parents were so proud of our Malay dance entitled ‘Zapin Usik Mengusik.
We were nervous but we did our bestest to welcome everyone with our speech.
We have perform this dance infront of our PM Lee Hsien Long, in January, and we brushed it up for our MP Ms Cheryl Chan.
Recycle is the key, and we presented our MP Ms Cheryl Chan with our National Day dance, Jai Ho.
Remember when we did the herbs and spices playdough using expired products sometime in June? Back then, it was our teachers who first demonstrated the techniques to us. But today, we were thrilled to lead in the demonstration of our playdough mesh-up to our guest. With the guidance and assistance from our teachers (hot water is a part of the recipe thus, adult supervision is compulsory!), we got our hands dirty with mixtures of flour, food colouring, oil, salt and the very fragrant herbs and spices.
The young and the young at heart, all were engrossed with the Herbs & Spices Playdough Mesh-up.
The entire place got pretty messy after the whole demonstration but I am sure our teachers agree that it is all part and parcel of the learning process!
We are thankful that some of our parents are such good sport. With the props we had prepared and their past experiences, they were able to show us some silat moves that they’ve learnt while they were younger. We were not able to capture a lot of pictures during this activity because trust us, we were so engrossed with the moves, even our teachers joined in! Now we know how it feels like to be a warrior!
