As part of the learning journey on this SSDB project,the children went on a trip to Mdm Lalitha’s experiential garden on 4th May 2018. The children are brief at the beginning of the project that some of their food that they buy from the supermarket can be grown . The purpose of the trip is to create an awareness of plants, insects, butterflies and where their food come from. Children are also taught to appreciate the flora and fauna around them. Mdm Lalitha guided us through the garden and we are taught about the different types of plants and butterflies that we can see around us. The children are also shown rice plant that Mdm Lalitha have grown in the garden. The children are given thyme, rosemary and some other plants to touch, feel and smell.
Mdm Lalitha also showed to the children cocoon of butterflies and showed the children the different butterflies that are fluttering in the garden. Both children and Teachers benefited from the visit to the garden. Mdm Lalitha also gave us egg yam seedling and butterfly pea seedlings to plant with the children in the centre. She gives us tips and advice on how to take care of the seedlings.
The K1 and K2 talked about their visit and also plant the seedlings that Mdm Lalitha had given when we came back to the centre.
