SSDB LAUNCH
To continue our efforts in providing warmth and love to the needy community, we decided that we will embark on our second journey of “Creative Hands*Loving Hearts”. Prior to the launch, each pupil was given a star pledge card to pen down their thoughts on how they could help the elderly in order to bring them warmth and joy. Some wrote that they wanted to give food or sing and dance for them while other gave responses such as doing craft works. After much discussion, we were all set for SSDB launch on 6th April 2018.
On the day of the launch, pupils had the opportunity to share what they had written on the cards before hanging them for display. With this act, they were conferred the title of ‘Special Agents’ for the Presidents Star Charity, getting ready for their next ‘mission’. The launch came to a close with pupils reciting the SSDB cheer “Creative Hands and Loving Hearts.”
PREPARATIONS FOR THE EVENT
After the launch, preparations were underway for our visit to Bright Hill Evergreen Home on 4th May 18. All teachers and pupils from the respective levels started to gather materials for their craftworks. K2 teacher and pupils decided to make small storage boxes for the elderly to store little things. Pupils chose their own designs and works were underway. Pupils were discussing among themselves how to go about doing the craft. It was heartening to hear them compliment one another’s work. Handheld flower crafts from the K1 pupils brought them smiles and cards from the nursery and pre-nursery pupils certainly brought warmth and love to their hearts.
Parents were also enthusiastic to be involved in our project. They donated food stuff and other daily essential items for the elderly.
Besides making craftworks, pupils were also busy practising their songs and dance items in order to put up a wonderful performance. We had also prepared passing parcel and Charade games for pupils to play with the elderly.
Through these games, we hope our pupils will be able to bond with the elderly, spreading their love and warmth.
DAY OF EVENT – VISIT TO BRIGHT HILL EVERGREEN HOME
04 May 2018 - The long awaited day has finally arrived for our visit to Bright Hill Evergreen Home.
Upon arrival, pupils gathered outside the lift with their poms poms to greet the ‘Ah Gongs’ and ‘Ah Mas’ while they were being wheeled in. As soon as they were settled down, pupils marched in singing the ‘Welcome Song’. After introducing ourselves, the elderly were given a treat of snacks. It was heartening to see pupils wanting eagerly to serve food and drinks to the elderly.
After the short snack, it was time to showcase their hard work for the past weeks. Pupils waited excitedly to put up their best performances of four songs and dances: 快乐小猪, I love Sunshine, You are my Sunshine and春天在哪里? Everyone was impressed as the performances were entertaining and especially cute for our little ones.
Pupils had a good interactive and bonding session with the elderly while playing charade and passing parcel games with them. Some elderly sang enthusiastically when it was their turn to do the forfeit and pupils enjoyed giving out prizes to them. It was really fun and engaging. Finally, the program came to an end as pupils sang the finale song,‘甜蜜蜜’and presented their craft works to the Ah Gongs and Ah Mas.
All of us had a fulfilling day of fun and laughter. Our SSDB Project - “Creative Hands and Loving Hearts 2” was a success!
REFLECTIONS
All of us in Jenius Kindergarten were so happy that we were able to bring sunshine, warmth and love to all the elderly in Bright Hill Evergreen Home during our visit on 5 April 2018. Pupils were very excited and they were heard talking about their experiences with the elderly. They wrote down their thoughts as a reflective record to this wonderful and memorable event and pledged to continue to do their part to contribute back to the community. Well done to all pupils and teachers!
