Helpfulness

“You have two hands. One to help yourself, the second to help others.”

We started the week on “Helpfulness” with the book, “Have You Filled a Bucket Today?” by Carol McCloud and David Messing. From the story, the children learnt that being nice, kind and helpful, such as giving a compliment, helping someone when they fall, or sharing snacks would simply brighten up someone’s day.

With Father’s Day around the corner, the children contributed ideas to create something special that they could make for their daddies. We did a “helpful booklet” for our daddies and the children suggested ways to be helpful to their daddies. Some suggested to wash daddy’s car, others said to cook something special. The children completed our booklet enthusiastically and made our little gifts for daddies with all our hearts.

On Father’s Day, we invited the daddies to a special celebration. The children put on our “Start Small Dream Big” hats. We had a mini song performance for the fathers. Everyone had fun playing games, dressing up and building the tallest tower using recycled materials with the help of the children. The children displayed helpfulness by helping the daddies with tearing tape or rolling paper. The children were helpful in tidying up too!

We rounded off the week by making baked potato and carrot. Mashing potatoes and carrots was not an easy task. But the children worked together cooperatively and helped one another to complete the task. As an individual, it would be too challenging to complete the task, but when we help one another, the task seemed much easier and we had more fun.
