Good Shepherd Convent Kindergarten - Launching of project @ NKF Discovery Centre

This year we launched our project on 28 February 2018 for the first session and 1 March 2018 for the second session. Parents were cordially invited to attend a talk organised by the National Kidney Foundation.

We believe that children of involved parents showed significantly higher achievement than other students. Hence our parents are encouraged to be part of this project.

The objectives of our B.L.E.S.S project are: to continue in provide opportunities for patients to experience social interaction and to promote meaningful intergenerational bonding.

During the launch, a dietician, Cassandra Lee, showed some slides on functions of the kidneys and also shared some methods that the parents can apply to help to prevent kidney disease. Parents and children had hands-on experiences on ‘What’s in your meal?’ They used the digital trays to select what you usually have in a meal. Scan a main course, a drink and a dessert.

After which, they will scan the digital trays at the counters for their result on the number of calories in the meal. They will know if they have been eating healthily. Another activity the parents tried on shaking away the calories in their bodies. Some parents also tried checking their pulse rates at the Discovery Centre.

At the end of exploration, the parents and children had a mini picnic at the centre.

Feel free to check out our blog for more activities that our children and parents will be doing at the Tampines Dialysis Centre.
