Children form social bonds through the opportunities provided by supportive adults. Teachers from both schools seize this opportunity to provide the possibility of creating social bonds for their children.
Working collaboratively, teachers discussed the learning goals planned for individual AWWA child. Children from MOE Kindergarten @ Springdale brainstormed ideas to create shoebox tasks that are individualised and unique to each AWWA child. Children know their AWWA friends by name and their preferences.
Prior to the visit, children were engaged in social stories as informed by the AWWA teachers. Children also experienced using equipments such as wheelchair and knee pad. These prior knowledge and experiences helped them to gain a better understanding on ways to interact, show their love, care and empathy towards their AWWA friends.
Children looked forward to the visit to AWWA. They participated in circle time before playing together with the shoebox tasks and enjoyed having snacks before bidding goodbye to their AWWA friends. From careful observations, it was evident that both groups of children were meaningfully engaged, enjoyed each other’s company and cared for one another. Till the next visit, children and teachers look forward to the second engagement session.
Every child is a different kind of flower, and all together, make this world a beautiful garden!
